About the Challenge
Emerging health threats are urgent threats to the health and well-being of people, animals, and our planet. They can take many forms, including emergence of infectious diseases in humans, animals, plants, and insects; movement of pathogens; antimicrobial resistance; exposure to toxins; the impacts of extreme weather and other disasters; mental health; and rising stress. Globally, emerging health threats are increasing as a result of climate change, poverty, and limited access to nutritious food and healthcare.
Grand Challenges is catalyzing a new kind of collaboration among experts to work toward a safer future. We recognize the innovative power of UC Davis to understand and prepare for what lies ahead. Transdisciplinary research, education, and service are critical for developing a diversity of approaches to identify, mitigate, and prevent emerging health threats.
